I am writing to let you know that I am a candidate for the AOTA Special Interest Section Council (SISC) Chairperson-Elect.
AOTA has an active, engaged, and growing membership. Demonstrating the distinct value of occupational therapy and strengthening the link between education, research, and practice will be strategic priorities for the membership over the next 3-5 years. Similarly, it is essential that AOTA create an inclusive community where every member has the opportunity to serve. Unfortunately, while student and new practitioner members (i.e., first 5 years) are among the fastest growing membership groups, opportunities to serve AOTA as a volunteer-leader remain limited. The SISs are an ideal environment to include and develop student and new practitioner members because the SISs: (1) offer a diversity of practice and interest areas; (2) provide a proven networking and outreach infrastructure; and (3) foster opportunities for member participation, recognition, and leadership. As an experienced state and national-level leader, I have a proven track record of progressive service in positions of increasing responsibility over many years. My leadership style is honest, authentic, and direct. I value open-mindedness, trustworthiness, credibility, and independence. My work is deliberate, efficient, and outcomes-driven. I tend to favor using technology to improve workflow and outcomes whenever possible. I will leverage these skills to ensure that the SISs are responsive to member needs.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact me directly. If you do not currently hold an elected or appointed AOTA office, I hope that you will considering sharing my message with your occupational therapy students, colleagues, and friends. AOTA elections run from January 11-29th, 2016. I hope that I can count on your vote
